NEW URTEXT EDITIONCzech violinist and pedagogue Jan Hřímalý (1844-1915), published his work Scale-Studies for Violin in 1900, originally titled as Упражнения в гаммах для скрипипичного класса в Государственнной Консерваториии (Exercises in scales for violin class at the State Conservatory). One of the most important works for violin literature, due to its progressive technical nature in which it was written, it is indispensable for learning scales on the violin and widely used even today, as it may have been the result of 46 years of vocation as a teacher between 1869-1915 at The Moscow Conservatory, now also known as Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory, which prompted the creation of these exercises divided into 10 sections, which have a Major key order and their respective relative minor, starting from C major. The first part of Scale-Studies for Violin contains an introduction with scales in first position with fingering, where different rhythms, volume nuances, bow strokes, articulation, slurs and tempo changes are proposed. All this by way of preparation for the scales of the following sections in different positions with more octaves throughout the book, although the book lacks studies on double stops it is still primordial for learning scales.Hřímalý met Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, who held him in high esteem. He was co-master of Tchaikovsky's String Quartets No. 2 (1874) and No. 3 (1876). In March 1882, he participated in the (private) premiere of Tchaikovsky's Piano Trio in A minor. Hřímalý by 1891 possessed extensive experience as a publisher, he had the opportunity to edit Ecole du mécanisme by the German violinist Ludwig Abel, which he perhaps used as inspiration to make his own technique book. Our urtext version is based on the first Moscow edition: P. Jurgenson, n.d.(ca.1900). Plate T. 737. Preserved in the Russian State Library. Some suggestions have been added over the musical text in gray color by the publisher to solve some discrepancies in the musical text, and the measures have been placed in a more comfortable and spacious way for the student's reading.
